Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is ready to get back into the ring — on the big screen.

Florence Pugh and Jack Lowden will star in Fighting With My Family, a new film about an aspiring female wrestler that will have a very big — Rock-sized — cameo.

Johnson, who soon will be seen in both Baywatch and Fate of the Furious, will executive produce the comedy-drama and play a cameo as himself.

The project, based on the true personal story of WWE Superstar Paige and her family of professional wrestlers, makes a lot of sense for Johnson, who first found fame as the professional wrestler The Rock.

The film is inspired by the Channel 4 British documentary The Wrestlers: Fighting With My Family and tells the story of reformed gangster and former wrestler Ricky, his wife Julia, daughter Saraya and son Zak, who make a living performing in tiny venues across the country. Ricky and Julia want a better life for their children, and when brother and sister get the chance to audition for WWE it seems the family dream is coming true and all their troubles will be solved. However, Saraya and Zak are about to learn that becoming a WWE Superstar demands more than they ever imagined possible, both as athletes and siblings. Wrestling has always kept this family together — but now it could tear them apart.

Stephen Merchant (The Office, Hello Ladies) will write, direct and executive produce the project.

Seven Bucks Productions’ Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia will executive produce while Kevin Misher of Misher Films will produce alongside WWE Studios President Michael Luisi. WWE Studios will co-finance the film with Film4. The film will start principal photography in Los Angeles and London this month.

“Back in 2012, I was in my hotel room in London and stumbled across a documentary on a local UK channel. Not only was I intrigued by this loving and wild family, but I also felt it’s the kind of narrative that would make an amazing movie,” said Johnson. “The Knights’ journey is a universal one that all families are familiar with. I relate to Saraya (Paige) and her wrestling family on such a personal level and it means so much that I can help tell their story.”

Johnson most recently voiced the character Maui in Disney’s animated film Moana and starred in Central Intelligence with Kevin Hart. The coming year will be a big one for him on the big screen, with The Fate of the Furious, Baywatch and Jumanji all hitting theaters. He’s repped by WME and Gang, Tyre.

Pugh is a rising star who appears in the Netflix series Marcella and also stars in the upcoming film Lady Macbeth, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival to strong reviews. She’s repped by WME, Julian Belfrage Associates in the UK and Bloom Hergott.

Lowden soon will be seen in Amma Assante’s A United Kingdom and Christopher Nolan’s war epic Dunkirk. He also appeared in the War & Peace mini-series in 2016. He is repped by UTA and Conway van Gelder Grant in the UK.

British Newspaper The Mirror have posted a new article on their website, where they have interviewed the new Divas Champion. You can check out the article below, along with photos from the website using the link at the end of this post.

WWE Divas champion Paige reveals proud parents were reduced to tears by daughter’s Raw debut and title win

Norwich-born double champ also confirms she has no intention of giving up her NXT Women’s title.

New WWE Divas champ Paige has revealed her proud mum and dad were reduced to tears by her historic title win and Raw debut this past Monday.

Parents Sweet Saraya and Ricky Knight are British wrestling veterans that have seen it all – but the enormity of their youngest child’s TV victory over AJ Lee left them bursting with emotion.

“Dad couldn’t say anything! He was silent but crying tears of joy,” Paige revealed to Mirror TV.

“Mum, however, couldn’t stop screaming!”

Paige also confirmed she has no intention of giving up her NXT Women’s title and concentrate on the company’s primary female championship.

006“No way will I be vacating my NXT belt – I’m a double champion,” she said, almost as if she has to keep repeating the fact to convince herself that her dream has in fact come true.

Despite being only 21, Paige is hardly new to the sports entertainment game having been raised in a wrestling family – and making her own way in the ring since she was 13.

Now, Norwich’s favourite daughter is an international star – and the raven-haired ‘Anti Diva’ can talk more turkey with her opponents than East Anglia’s Bernard Matthews.

But it is apparent when speaking to Mirror TV she is still riding a wave of euphoria.

“I was so overwhelmed when the other Divas surprised me backstage with a group hug, it was almost like a pile on!” she said.

“But when it comes to business, I will take them all on. Bring it on!”

Paige has been interviewed by The Independent, discussing her career thus far. Including her insane Raw Debut where she won the Divas Championship.

Norwich has seen its fair share of sporting heroes over the years. From Jeremy Goss’s wonder strike against Bayern Munich, to Anthony Ogogo’s heroic bronze medal at London 2012, sport has been as synonymous with the city as Alan Partridge.

654363For years, the nearest Norwich had to a fighting female was Delia Smith’s memorable halftime outburst at Carrow Road in 2005, but now there is a new icon in town.

The same year that the celebrity cook yelled out “where are you!” to tens of thousands of people, a 13-year-old girl made her debut as a professional wrestler in front of hundreds. Saraya-Jade Bevis, known as Paige in the WWE, was born in 1992, and yet is remarkably entering her ninth year as a professional grappler.

On Monday night, she became the first WWE Superstar – male or female – born in the nineties to win a Championship, becoming the youngest WWE Divas Champion of all time when she defeated long-term title holder AJ Lee on Raw. As if that wasn’t startling enough, it was also her first ever appearance on WWE’s flagship weekly show.

Speaking to The Independent on the phone from America, not even 24 hours after her triumph, the Diva was unsurprisingly on cloud nine, especially when asked about her feelings on becoming champion.

“Oh my gosh, you have no idea. I lost my mind. Firstly just being in the ring with AJ who I’ve always looked up to, she’s an incredible talent and a woman to be around, and then being on Raw is just insane.

With England, and the world still buzzing over Paige’s victory last night, coverage of the event is making headlines. The Norwich Evening News, of Paige’s hometown; have posted this article covering the new Champions win.

3375233348She was brought up on a Norwich council estate and, at 21, is now the youngest person and only woman to be double champion of the wrestling world.

21-year-old Saraya-Jade Bevis, or Paige, as she is known in WWE, is the current NXT Women’s Champion and, as of the early hours of yesterday, the WWE Divas Champion.

From a family of wrestlers, Saraya originally wanted to be a vet but got a taste of life in the ring at the age of just 13 when her dad asked her to stand in for someone else at the last minute.

Her brother Zak said the whole of Norwich had been behind Saraya, flooding his and other family members Facebook pages with messages of support.

“It shouldn’t be called Facebook today – it should be called Paigebook,” he said. “And she has been trending worldwide on Twitter all day. She was crying down the phone when I spoke to her, saying ‘I can’t believe I have done it’.”

Saraya, who was watched by millions across the globe, claimed the second title after stepping into the ring to congratulate world champion, AJ Lee. The American did not take kindly to her support and put her belt up for grabs in a challenge.

“My sister beat her in two minutes,” said Zak.

“And now she is double champion. We just can’t believe it.”

Saraya’s father, Ricky Knight, who is also a boxer said he was “over the moon” after watching his daughter on TV.

“Since she has been over in America, her success has been phenomenal,” he said.

“She has always trained and worked hard with her family but she was never interested in being a professional wrestler. After I asked her to stand in for someone when she was 13, she got the buzz and has never wanted to go back.”

Mr Knight said he was especially proud of his daughter for remaining humble throughout her incredible journey.

“I don’t think she will ever get an ego,” he said.

“She is just a normal girl, a girl that everyone loves.”

There have been many great wrestling families over the years from the Von Erich’s to the Hart’s, and the Knight’s a British family from Norwich are among them. The Knights consist of dad Ricky, mum Julia Hamer-Bevis (Sweet Saraya), son’s Zak and Roy, and daughter Britani.

Knight_FamilyThe family starred in Channel 4 documentary The Wrestlers: Fighting with My Family, which followed the Knight children as they had tryouts with the WWE, and Britani ended up getting a contract and has since been a huge success in the WWE’s developmental territory NXT as Anti-Diva Paige.

After the success of the documentary there have been talks of a series and this is something the family would welcome, Ricky revealed.

“It was a really good experience making the documentary, we’ve done a lot of TV over the years like chat shows and other documentaries, but this one the whole family was involved.

“It was only on for an hour but they followed us about for 14 months, some days it could get frustrating because they are in your face on a bad day or if things aren’t going well in the office or your running late for a show they want to get another shot in.

“To be honest we were very lucky because Max (Fisher) the director was really good, and I was pleased with the end product and we got a very positive response and their is talk in the pipeline about doing a series.

“Britani getting the WWE contract whilst filming the documentary actually happened by accident, it was originally going to be about the whole family and WAW but as soon as she got the contract the whole angle of the show changed. That is why they can get a series out of it, because there is so much more in the can.”

Sweet Saraya is always vocal about how proud she is of Paige, and she recently discussed this with The Sun! She also talks about the possibility of a full series about her family. You can check out the article in full, below.

THE MUM of the girl tipped to be the WWE’s next hottest Diva has spoken of her pride in an interview with SunSport.

Julia Hamer-Bevis, better known as female wrestler Sweet Saraya, is well known on the UK scene as part of the Knight dynasty along with husband ‘Rowdy’ Ricky Knight and three wrestling children, Zac, Roy and Britani.

They recently starred in a Channel 4 documentary that followed their children trying out for WWE, which ended with Britani getting signed and rechristened Paige ahead of sure-fire US stardom.

And Shimmer World Champion Saraya revealed that the one-off show maybe turned into a full series.

She told us: “The documentary came about when the producer/director Max Fisher contacted us. He is a huge fan of Ricky’s and wanted to do something with him.

“But when he talked to us and found out about the whole family being involved in wrestling it expanded.

“The upcoming WWE trials made it interesting too. I’d love to see it released on DVD, but for now it looks like it may become a series.”

Sweet Saraya interviewed by The SunSaraya added: “Ricky and I love the fact that our family followed us into wrestling and love it as much as we do. We are especially proud that they have made a living out of the job and that they have excelled too.

“I was there when Britani (Paige) was told. It was amazing, she was bouncing off the walls. We as a family were buzzing for her, but inside we all knew we would have to lose her to the States.

“We knew she was going to be huge and are so proud. Now it is the rest of the world’s turn to find that out.

“It is the boys turn to go for it next. We are all rooting for them to follow their sister to the WWE.”

Speaking about the scene in Britain, Saraya is confident that indie promotions such as her husband Ricky’s Norfolk-based WAW will continue to thrive thanks to hard work.

She told us: “Crowd wise, Scotland is doing really well and selling out. Up north the houses are quite big too. In East Anglia it’s profitable, but the work that has to go into getting the bums on seats is endless.

“We have survived as a company since 1994, so we know our market and our shows at Epic Studios in Norwich are a huge attraction.

“What everyone has to understand is wrestling’s popularity turns around every five years. There is a bumper year that tails off over a period of time then it rejuvenates itself.

“It is how it has always been, but every show is a gamble and its one we are willing to keep taking.”
